Another New Obsession: Antique Birdcages

In light of my upcoming move, I've been inspired to rethink my design aesthetic. Through the last two years of taking in many different styles, I've settled on the one that most closely looks like my soul...victorian chic. Think high-backed fainting couches mixed with modern whites and saturated purples. I feel light-headed just dreaming about it.

To accent this, I've been on the recent prowl for Antique Birdcages, scouring craigslist, value village, design blogs, and etsy. I would fill it with plants or books or booze and paint it some wacky color. Flickr has provided much in the way of visual fodder to fuel this obsession...

Birdcage Me

Anyone got a birdcage hanging around?

Emmy Gossip.

Just a few insignificant thoughts from a totally irrelevant bystander:

Poor Jenna, she obviously snagged her dress on the limo or something. Tacky.

Totally loving this number on Carrie Preston. Perfect contrast...and it's totally hard to pull of orange and black without looking like a pumpkin during Halloween.

This is so bad, I have no words.

Kathy Griffen - you are one hyper lady. Hilarious.

I love Ginnifer Goodwin and her perfect pixie hair. Well done.

January Jones, seriously lovely.

And last, Blake Lively did it right, but only from the back.

Lordy me, one false move and you could possibly catch a peek of her "see you next tuesday."

And that's it from me, your thoughts?

Purple Rain...

I spotted this hat in the window of Urban Outfitters as I was walking home from the grocery store a few weeks ago. I have loved it ever since, but was not tempted to spend the $40 until I went online and saw that they had it in purple. Ever since a little bird whispered that I needed to be in purple, it's been catching my eye.

And then, just before the rush of impulsivity took a hold of my fingers and clicked "buy," I had the saddest of all sad thoughts. I am no longer going to be in the city for the fall...as you know, I am moving out to the country. Then I had a flood of horrible thoughts, "Will I ever have an excuse for a fall hat again if only the birds and joel will appreciate it?"

And then I realized with great relief that I still have a car...and Seattle's not going anywhere...AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, that even if the birds were the only ones to swoon over my hat...they, me, and joel are audience enough.

I'll make my own damn purple rain, thank you very much.

Mullberry Bags

I noticed these gorgeous things in the fall Vogue. I made a point not to look up the price as I wasn't in the mood to cry today...

Stay tuned! The new fall Vogue is sitting on my nightstand and I still haven't cracked it open. I'm sure it will hold plenty of inspiration...

More Fall Inspiration

More from the fall issue of Bazaar:

I love the whole romantic, Victorian, feminine but tailored look of this The Secret Garden inspired collection. I seriously want those boots hard.
