Purple Rain...

I spotted this hat in the window of Urban Outfitters as I was walking home from the grocery store a few weeks ago. I have loved it ever since, but was not tempted to spend the $40 until I went online and saw that they had it in purple. Ever since a little bird whispered that I needed to be in purple, it's been catching my eye.

And then, just before the rush of impulsivity took a hold of my fingers and clicked "buy," I had the saddest of all sad thoughts. I am no longer going to be in the city for the fall...as you know, I am moving out to the country. Then I had a flood of horrible thoughts, "Will I ever have an excuse for a fall hat again if only the birds and joel will appreciate it?"

And then I realized with great relief that I still have a car...and Seattle's not going anywhere...AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, that even if the birds were the only ones to swoon over my hat...they, me, and joel are audience enough.

I'll make my own damn purple rain, thank you very much.

a white christmas: dreams do come true

merry christmas my lovely friend and all who view! we have been under a burdensome and beautiful blanket of snow here in seattle for over a week now, as you well know...and such intense weather calls for some intense drainage on a gal's wardrobe. One must go for warmth and practicality and boots that actually keep your feetsies dry!

I have been dreaming in white...i dream of these boots...i dream of this peafowl necklace!
(i know you just clicked to buy it for me, but it's already sold...keep tryin!)

i dream of this zig zag hat

i dream of such bold vintage earrings.

i dream of this oatmeal drop stitch scarf...

i dream of such a coat!

i dream of cashmere white bjork (is it the hat or the name?!)

i dream of this adorable bedside owl bequeathing me the warmest of light by which to keep my nighttime vigils. (it may be approaching 3am as i write this).

i dream of these legwarmers

who doesn't dream of an LED jesus?

i dream of olden days wherein a lady never left the house without her hat and gloves.

i dream of this lovely cardigan house sweater

sigh.
perchance to dream...

Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2009

oh dear!
i happened to stumble upon this article featuring Marc Jacob's Spring/Summer 09 collection, and I believe my little heart quickend a bit. I have thought, for some time now, that his recent collections have been a bit lack luster and not memorable enough, but spot on, mr. jacobs, spot fucking on!

I love this article where his collection is described as Mary Poppins goes to Dubai.

But then again, you had me at Mary Poppins.

you know, for me...it may sound mellow-dramatic, but i really believe in this line. it's ART! you know? finally, it's ART...and the woman's figure has got to be the most inspiring muse available to fabric. and not only is it ART, but it's something we could easily wear wandering the streets of monmarte, eating petie fours, sliding down mahogany banisters, and jumping into sidewalk chalk pictures.

oh this has excited me so today. now go and look at the whole collection and agree in a nodding of that prim little head when i say this collection is "practically perfect in every way."

Hats on to Us

"Women who wear hats intimidate me the most. It wasn't so bad when everyone wore a hat, but today, the style is limited only to the few, the proud...the tall. I think that's the key word here. Hats were never meant to be worn by women who can stand up under overhead bins on airplanes and not bash their heads in." (unknown)

The Hat. I never feel so fine, so sassy, so flirty as when I wear a hat. Something about that final accessory just defines my character for the day, giving a little pizazz to what could have been just another outfit. I think we need to decorate our hair more often, frame our faces and strut out under the brim of a fabulous hat.

Yes Please! (above: Mer Pleine de Vie Victorian top hat by Vanite De La Mort and below: The Holly by Topsy Turvy Design)

And for those days when something a little smaller, a little daintier is in order, we need a Fascinator!

This one, the Flirty Fascinator (also by Topsy Turvy Design), really needs to adorn my long brown tresses (hint hint to anyone who wants to shower me with love!) while I sip a cinnamon sprinkled rusty nail in Chez Gaudy.

And how could I say no to a huge bloom fluttering in my hair? (below: The Viktoria by Pink Tigers Den)

And when we need something even more subtle, what about a fabulous headband? I know you just posted the work of Vie Moderne, but I can't stop thinking about her gorgeous feathered head pieces. I am trying to decide between these two, but loving them both equally (top: Peacock Feather and Leather Flower Headband and bottom: Pheasant Feather and Leather Flower Headband).

And because I am truly a flower child at heart, I love these "Hippie" headbands by Mary Jane Frances.

'Till we tip our hats to each other next, au revoir my friend.

It's after three,
The clouds are closing in
The angels are rumbling overhead
The maple tree is dancing
And you, my dear, are almost home.

I had high aspirations for a day of shopping with Jess at the Brand New H&M, but they fell far short of reality (reality being something about huge store opening, ten million or so shoppers picking over the goods, nothing left but extra-small for my healthy chest, I don't know, something like that). However I did manage to find this sweet hat and will be trying to channel Micheal Jackson in all the glory of his Smooth Criminal days.

How much do I love that man? He puts the beat in my soul and I just gotta dance!

I would have so fallen for him back then. Let's all breathe a little sigh of sweet memory for MJ.

"Show 'em your funky,
Strong is your fight,
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right
Just Beat it."
