How was your Thanksgiving? I was hanging out with my sister and her in-laws and we had our meal at Black Angus. Despite some trepidation about eating at a restaurant for what is arguably my favorite meal of the year, it was really good! The best part? Well, I believe it was the controlled portions. So what if we bought an apple pie on the way home.

Despite lusting after a few hundred pairs of leather and suede boots, I've come to terms with the impracticality of it at this juncture in my life. What DOES make sense to spend hundreds of dollars on, however, is RAIN boots!

So I scooted on over to Zappos and searched. Boy howdy.

Though they are not technically rain boots, they are waterproof! Plus, I'm destined to have them because they came up in the rain boot search. PLEASE SANTA? If only I hadn't given Santa a budget...

Custom Work from The Noisy Plume

If our dear readers haven't picked up on it yet, we not only LOVE plume's work, but adore her blog , her photography, and her person. Though we have the pleasure of calling her friend, we also recognize her meticulous craftsmanship and soul-filled artistry poured into each piece.

I had a custom necklace made for my sister for her birthday, and I couldn't be more happy with it! She worked closely with me (about 11 emails exchanged) to get a feel not only for the piece I wanted, but for the person who would be wearing it. A small part of my sister's soul is now seeded in this heirloom peice, which she can bequeath to her (soon to be born) daughter. I just had to show it off here:

All my favorite designers are stomping those runways with period pieces, and those happen to be periods of history I absolutely love...Victorian, 1940s, it's all a bit too much to take in. D&G is no exception to this. I saw the center dress and absolutely tasted the envy.

In light of my upcoming move, I've been inspired to rethink my design aesthetic. Through the last two years of taking in many different styles, I've settled on the one that most closely looks like my soul...victorian chic. Think high-backed fainting couches mixed with modern whites and saturated purples. I feel light-headed just dreaming about it.

To accent this, I've been on the recent prowl for Antique Birdcages, scouring craigslist, value village, design blogs, and etsy. I would fill it with plants or books or booze and paint it some wacky color. Flickr has provided much in the way of visual fodder to fuel this obsession...

I spotted this hat in the window of Urban Outfitters as I was walking home from the grocery store a few weeks ago. I have loved it ever since, but was not tempted to spend the $40 until I went online and saw that they had it in purple. Ever since a little bird whispered that I needed to be in purple, it's been catching my eye.

And then, just before the rush of impulsivity took a hold of my fingers and clicked "buy," I had the saddest of all sad thoughts. I am no longer going to be in the city for the fall...as you know, I am moving out to the country. Then I had a flood of horrible thoughts, "Will I ever have an excuse for a fall hat again if only the birds and joel will appreciate it?"

And then I realized with great relief that I still have a car...and Seattle's not going anywhere...AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, that even if the birds were the only ones to swoon over my hat...they, me, and joel are audience enough.

I'll make my own damn purple rain, thank you very much.

On the list of the many things I've learned from you, friendly neighbor, is the notion that all the things I decide to own should have special value to me. If I buy something, it should be deliberate, soulful, and I should absolutely love it. Well, one way that has played out (again by your example) is in the collection of kitchenware...namely mugs. It's one of my greatest pleasures to be at your house and choose my own teacup from the various pottery you and others have made for yourself.

Therefore, buying myself special mugs has been my desire for quite sometime. In my etsy searchings, I stumbled upon these by CircaCeramics. Don't you think we need them?

I was telling you about this last night as we drove, but I wanted to help you see what I was trying to describe. Hell, I want everyone to see these amazing shots...

Just one second in time, snap.
And you have a rich, complex story.

And there you have why I love photography.

Maisy Crow is a photojournalist who recently claimed the Ian Perry award for her series in progress, "Love Me." It is a story of a 15-year old Ohio girl raised in poverty...just as her mother and her mother's mother were.

Can you imagine being the photographer here? How to capture these organic moments? How to be a fly on the wall when there is obviously a good amount of shame and embarrassment on their part attached to your being there. It's not a task for the weak-of-heart.

But then again, neither is living.
Especially for this girl.

Yesterday, while catching up on my salacious fashion/celeb gossip magazines at the hairdresser, I stumbled upon an issue of "W" magazine that had been turned over. When I couldn't help myself (I am always looking at the front of magazines that some conservative mother turned around in the grocery store), I saw a spread of Bruce and Emma Willis that looked creepy to say the very best.

Juan, my awesome stylist, confessed to having been the one to cover its shame. I was completely fascinated by this point. And oh boy, do I regret it. I suggest never, ever looking at these raunchy and disturbing S&M pictures filmed by the all-American couple. But leave it to "W" Magazine to transform this:

And I am seriously telling you, even with Bruce's strangely orange skin this is the LEAST disturbing image.

I am so affected, I might even go turn these copies around in my local grocer.
